Category 3: Military..err.. Historical... Fiction

Is Military Fiction a genre unto itself, or is it simply a subset of Historical Fiction set during a time of war or conflict? There are certain books/series of books that I wouldn't necessarily consider to be "historical" fiction, i.e. The Brotherhood of War (and all of his other) series by W.E.B. Griffin; but are certainly "military" in nature...

Whatever... I know what I like when it comes to historical fiction, and if it involves the military or if its set during war or conflict, I'm probably going to like it!

Herman Wouk was probably my first exposure to this genre with his Pulitzer Prize-winning The Caine Mutiny and his World War II classic The Winds of War/War and Remembrance.
